What we treat

Under NHS Pharmacy First, our pharmacists can assess, advise and — where appropriate — prescribe medication for the seven conditions below. The service is free on the NHS and available to eligible patients at all Bounce Pharmacy branches.

NHSSinusitis

Available

Blocked, painful sinuses that haven't cleared up on their own.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • Adults & children 12 and over
  • Experiencing typical symptoms (see below)

Typical symptoms

  • Pain or pressure around your cheeks, eyes or forehead
  • Blocked or runny nose
  • Reduced sense of smell
  • Green or yellow mucus lasting more than 10 days

NHSSore Throat

Available

A painful, scratchy throat that's making it hard to swallow or talk.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • Adults & children 5 and over
  • Experiencing typical symptoms (see below)

Typical symptoms

  • Pain when swallowing
  • Swollen or tender glands in the neck
  • Redness at the back of the mouth
  • Hoarse or muffled voice

NHSEar Infection

Available

An infection inside the ear causing pain and sometimes hearing difficulties.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • Children aged 1–17
  • Experiencing typical symptoms (see below)

Typical symptoms

  • Ear pain (young children may tug or pull at their ear)
  • Difficulty hearing
  • Fever or feeling generally unwell
  • Irritability or crying in younger children

NHSInfected Insect Bite

Available

A bite from an insect that's become red, swollen and showing signs of infection.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • Adults & children 1 and over
  • Experiencing typical symptoms (see below)

Signs of infection

  • Increasing redness spreading around the bite
  • Warmth or swelling at the site
  • Pus or discharge
  • Pain that's getting worse rather than better

NHSImpetigo

Available

A contagious bacterial skin infection that causes sores and crusty patches, usually on the face.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • Adults & children 1 and over
  • Experiencing typical symptoms (see below)

Typical symptoms

  • Red sores, usually around the nose and mouth
  • Sores that burst and leave golden, honey-coloured crusts
  • Itching or discomfort around the affected area

NHSShingles Time sensitive

Available

A painful rash caused by reactivation of the chickenpox virus. Treatment works best when started early.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • Adults 18 and over
  • Experiencing typical symptoms (see below)

Typical symptoms

  • Tingling, burning or shooting pain — often before the rash appears
  • A rash of fluid-filled blisters, usually on one side of the body or face
  • Sensitivity to touch in the affected area
  • Feeling generally unwell or feverish

Come in as soon as possible — treatment is most effective when started within 72 hours.

NHSUrine Infection (UTI)

Available

A bacterial infection of the bladder causing pain and a frequent urge to urinate.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • Women aged 16–64
  • Experiencing typical symptoms (see below)

Typical symptoms

  • Burning or stinging when you urinate
  • Needing to urinate more often than usual
  • Cloudy, dark or strong-smelling urine
  • Pain or pressure in your lower tummy

You'll receive advice, and a prescription if clinically appropriate — dispensed on the spot. Your GP is notified where appropriate.
